“The local NHS is increasingly doing more to support care in the patient’s own home where possible.

The community intravenous therapy team supports patients with a range of conditions, for example those requiring rehydration, blood transfusion or antibiotics.

In the past this kind of care would only have been available in hospital. The service, delivered by nurses with specialist skills, also supports people with care of intravenous lines used for longer term treatments and provides education, training and support to other health professionals, such as district nurses, involved in the patient’s care.

The CCG is keen to support the development of staff skills and new techniques to improve the patient experience of care and to make the NHS as local as possible.”
