We’ve come up with some simple ideas for reducing either the amount of calories in soft drinks or theamount of alcohol that you drink, without having to say ‘no’ or to miss out on the fun of socialising.
Help with healthy drinking
Having a drink – whether that’s a cuppa or a pint – is a great way of relaxing and spending time with friends or family. Just like food though, both alcoholic and soft drinks can contain lots of calories, but somehow it can be easy to forget them when thinking about our calorie intake each day.
Over time, drinking alcohol to excess can also have a lasting effect on our health. So thinking about your drinking as part of a Change4Life is just as important as eating more healthily and finding ways to exercise.
Are you hungry… or thirsty?
It’s worth remembering that sometimes we eat because we think we’re hungry, whereas actually we’re thirsty instead – it can be hard to tell the difference. So we eat snacks when actually, what our bodies want is a drink.
Just a simple glass of water can take away that feeling and can also make you feel more full. What’s more, it doesn’t have any calories, so there is less chance of piling on the pounds!

Time to get swapping those drinks!
