Vaccination teams across Gloucestershire have been praised as yet another major COVID-19 vaccination milestone is surpassed in the county, with one million doses given since the programme started in December 2020.
Dr Andy Seymour, Clinical Chair, NHS Gloucestershire CCG, said:
“This milestone should be celebrated as it represents the incredible dedication and hard work of vaccination teams in Gloucestershire. This has been a truly collaborative effort, with teams across the health and care system working tirelessly to vaccinate our local population. Whilst GP led services in the county have been carrying out the bulk of community vaccinations at one of eleven Primary Care Network vaccination sites, our hardworking teams have also been providing vaccines in care homes, pharmacies, staff hubs, schools and various mobile ‘pop-up’ sites.
I would like to personally thank our GP Practice teams who are pulling out all the stops to support the vaccination programme whilst also providing the usual day to day medical care to patients. They have shown great resilience and determination over recent months, against the backdrop of pressures in primary care, and are working to keep patients safe.
As well as the health and care professionals who have been leading the vaccination programme, volunteers in every corner of the county have also played a major part in what has been achieved here and they are all part of the fantastic One Gloucestershire team.
We can all be rightly proud of what has been achieved so far, but there will be no let-up in our efforts as we continue to vaccinate vulnerable people in our population this winter with both COVID-19 boosters and flu jabs as well as rolling out the 12 to 15 year old vaccination programme. In addition to this, teams are also still offering first and second doses to people who are eligible, so it isn’t too late for anyone to change their mind and get vaccinated.”
If they have not already been in contact, local GP services will be in touch soon inviting people who are eligible for a booster vaccination to book an appointment at one of the eleven Primary Care Network GP-led vaccination centres across the county.
People will also have the choice to arrange their flu vaccination with their local pharmacy or use the National Booking System (NBS) website or phone number to book their COVID-19 booster at one of eight community pharmacies in Gloucestershire.
Local people can get the latest information about the winter vaccination programme, how to access first and second doses, and find details of upcoming COVID vaccine drop-in sessions on the NHS Gloucestershire COVID-19 website.
